Your studies
Many courses of study, one project: Here you can see where theoretical knowledge ends up in practice - and which formats are possible.
Lions Racing welcomes students from many different fields and degree programs. A lot of theoretical knowledge from university courses can be applied directly in our team. We also offer opportunities for internships and project work. Below, you will find an overview of possible areas to work in and options for internships and academic projects.
Areas you can work in
Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical engineering is at the core of every vehicle development process. This includes topics like chassis design and suspension performance. We work according to the Simulation-Driver-Design principle to verify development decisions early with the help of simulations. Each season, we manufacture lightweight components in-house, including fiber composite parts as well as turned and milled components.
Electrical Engineering
As a team building electric race cars, we offer many tasks in electrical engineering. For example, our accumulator, HV and LV wiring harnesses, and all control units are developed and tested in-house each season. We also work on the full commissioning process of the motor-inverter system.
Computer Science
Our Driverless module is divided into several areas with different focuses.
Perception deals a lot with point clouds and clustering, but also with neural networks.
State Estimation focuses on calculating missing state variables, for example from vehicle speed.
Trajectory planning relies heavily on filters, which are often computationally expensive, so optimization is very important here.
Business
Beyond the technical components, there are many business-related activities around the vehicle. At events, a business plan and business model for the car and team must be presented. The Cost & Manufacturing Report also requires strong economic and industrial engineering skills. You need to understand both the components and production and logistics costs.
Sales and Procurement
Because building our car requires significant cost and manufacturing effort, we continuously work with sponsors and supporters. Sponsor relations, sales, and procurement are therefore essential for us and are skills you can definitely develop in the team.
Marketing and Event Organization
Our team runs social media channels and a website that need regular maintenance. We also continuously work to attract new sponsors and team members. In addition, we host multiple internal and external events each year that require planning and organization.
Project Management
If you are interested in steering a project with a large team, complex tasks, and tight timing, this is a great opportunity to go beyond theory. From process development and scheduling to resource planning and information flow, we cover the full scope of responsibilities you would expect in project management.
Internships
For some master's degree programs, we offer the possibility to complete an internship. Join Lions Racing, contribute actively for one year, and receive a team membership certificate afterwards. Depending on your degree program, this can be credited as an internship with up to 5 ECTS. If you have questions about eligible programs or details, feel free to contact us.
Project and Study Work
Do you want to work on something that truly matters in your project or study work? Join Lions Racing. You can work on a topic you genuinely care about while helping the team move forward. Your work builds knowledge that can continue to be used in future seasons, and you gain valuable practical experience along the way.
Bachelor's and Master's Theses
Due to the high technical level of our vehicle and components, parts with substantial development or simulation effort can be addressed in bachelor's or master's theses. Intensive work on a component and its design often enables long-term use in the team, while the resulting know-how remains available for future members. In close cooperation with university institutes and industry partners, we also build valuable networks and technical collaborations.
